Gut Health Matters

Many horse owners are familiar with common digestive problems such as gastric ulcers and colic. Ulcers affect up to 90% of race horses and 70% of leisure horses and are the most common cause of insurance pay-outs.  Colic is the leading cause of emergency vet call outs and mortality. However, there are other gut issues that affect horse health, well being and behaviour. Gut inflammation is associated with girthiness, explosiveness and spooking, napping and resistance. Although stomach ulcers can be diagnosed with gastroscoping, the remaining 90% of the horse's digestive tract remains difficult to assess, making it challenging to detect inflammation or monitor overall gut health before clinical signs appear.

At AlvuSana, we've developed a simple, non-invasive test that measures horse-specific biomarkers of gut health from a faecal sample. Our science provides early insights into gut inflammation, immune activity and digestive health, helping you monitor changes over time and evaluate the impact of diet, supplements and management—before problems become more serious.
